WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction is a type of body contouring and fat removal surgery that works by breaking down fat in target areas of the body through different techniques and then sucking out the broken-down fat from the body using a cannula (thin tube) and fat suction device. Liposuction shapes and contours the target area through fat reduction, but is not, however, a weight loss treatment. Unlike other fat reduction treatments, you will begin to see results from liposuction surgery instantaneously, but the final results will require some time to appear.
TYPES OF LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURES
VASER Liposuction (Ultrasound Liposuction)
VASER liposuction, or “VASER lipo” is a popular form of ultrasound-assisted liposuction and is a minimally invasive procedure. The treatment works by using ultrasound energy to break down fat in the target area before suction to allow for easier fat removal.
VASER Liposuction Before and After: What to Expect
Since VASER liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure, it allows for more targeted fat removal, even in delicate areas. The procedure also causes less trauma and smaller liposuction scars and needs less downtime than other types of liposuction thanks to less tissue damage. Due to the ultrasound technology used during this treatment, skin in the treatment area will also be stimulated to produce more collagen which may result in skin tightening benefits for a more well-shaped physique. You can expect more precise results with this procedure as well as being able to go back to work within a week after surgery in most cases. Final results will be completely visible within 3-6 months. This type of liposuction is usually used for the chin and neck (double chin removal), arms (arm liposuction), inner and outer thighs, abdomen, waist, flanks (love handles), back, buttock and knees.
Tumescent Liposuction
Perhaps the most widely used liposuction technique, tumescent liposuction uses a tumescent solution made up of a mixture of saline, local anaesthetic and epinephrine to numb the area, loosen the fat and reduce swelling and bleeding.
Tumescent Liposuction Before and After: What to Expect
Tumescent liposuction is an effective fat-removal technique for both large and small areas alike. You can expect less trauma from this technique as well, thanks to the epinephrine which works to constrict blood vessels and minimise bleeding during the procedure. However, unlike the VASER technique, tumescent liposuction does NOT have any skin tightening benefits. Finally, patients can normally go back to work within 1-2 weeks after this procedure and will see final results within 3-6 months. This procedure is widely used for fat removal in the abdomen (belly fat removal), thigh, hips and flanks, back, buttocks, arms (arm liposuction), chin and neck, breasts, calves and ankles.
Laser Liposuction
Laser liposuction, or “laser lipo”, refers to a modern minimally invasive liposuction technique that uses lasers to melt fat before it is removed from the body. This treatment also works to increase collagen production in the treatment area, leading to skin tightening benefits.
Laser Liposuction Before and After: What to Expect
Due to its minimally invasive nature, laser liposuction requires a smaller incision than some other techniques. It is also a technique created for smaller and more delicate areas that cannot be targeted by other lipo procedures. This type of liposuction is usually used for the chin and neck (double chin removal), arms (arm liposuction), inner and outer thighs, abdomen, flanks (love handles), back and knees. You can expect a downtime of about one week with this procedure and full results settling within 3-6 months.
