Hair Transplant Surgery

Before beginning your hair transplant treatment, your scalp gets a good cleaning. Then, the surgeon numbs a part of your head using a tiny needle and local anaesthesia. There are two main ways to get hair follicles: FUT and FUE.

• Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT Hair Transplant): The surgeon cuts a strip of skin from the back of your head. The cut is usually a few inches long and is closed with stitches. Next, the piece of the scalp is cut into small sections using a sharp knife and a magnifying lens. These sections will help your hair grow naturally when they're put back.
• Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE Hair Transplant): The surgeon directly removes hair follicles from the back of your head through a series of tiny punch incisions. After that, the surgeon makes tiny holes in the part of your scalp where you want to implant the hair and carefully places hairs into these holes.

To get the full head of hair you want, you might need three or four sessions. Each session is a few months apart to let each transplant heal properly. Hair can even be transferred from the scalp to other parts of the body such as the chest, abdomen, axilla and pubis by an expert hair transplant specialist, depending on your aesthetic needs, or the opposite, grafts can be taken from these areas to be implanted at the scalp.

Hair Transplant Post-Surgery

Following your hair transplant surgery, your scalp might feel tender. You might need medications like pain relievers, antibiotics to prevent infections or anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce swelling. Usually, people can go back to work after a few days.

Hair Transplant Aftercare

Follow these steps for the best results after your hair transplant:

• Take pain medication as prescribed.
• Avoid touching or scratching the transplanted area. Tell your doctor if you notice redness, swelling or pain.
• Steer clear of strenuous activities like heavy lifting or playing sports.
• Sleep with your head raised at least 45 degrees for the first three nights using a neck pillow.
• After three to four days, gently wash your hair using a mild shampoo and pour water softly over the area.
• Avoid bathing, showering or soaking the transplant area underwater for at least a month.
• Attend follow-up appointments with your doctor to track your progress.
